For decades many truly brilliant and dedicated amateur scientists have worked in the shadows, occasionally gaining the notice of their professional peers but, for the most part, doing remarkable work in obscurity without recourse to resources that professionals take for granted.Â
Now, the Citizen Scientists League is offering amateurs and citizen scientists a way to join the scientific conversation by providing access to thousands of scientific and academic journals and other publications. CSL is proud to be the first such organization to offer this kind of service.
For an annual membership fee of $60, CSL members can access to databases that include the following:
- Nearly 13,000 abstracted and indexed journals
- More than 8,750 full-text journals
- Full text for nearly 7,800 peer-reviewed journals
- PDF content dating back as far as 1887
- Searchable cited references provided for more than 1,400 journals
- Tools for organizing and updating searches
- Daily updates
If you are a science hobbyist, an educator, a member of a science club, pursuing a science fair project, a small business owner, a member of another citizen science organization, or anyone else with an interest in the latest scientific research, this service is for you. We hope to bring the benefits of these publications to as many people as possible. CSL hopes to build partnerships with other organizations, from major NGOs to local science clubs and hacker spaces.
Our aim is to create a diverse, engaged, and dynamic community of learners, inventors, makers, teachers, mentors, and anyone else with a curious streak. Launching this service is just the beginning; we plan to provide additional services that will enhance and augment the ability of science enthusiasts everywhere to work, learn, obtain materials, establish credentials, conduct research, obtain funding, collaborate, publish, and eventually gain the kind of support enjoyed by our friends and colleagues in academia and the corporate world.
I hope you will become part of our growing community.
