This paper describes experiments with a multiple-wire anode spark counter designed to detect alpha (a) particles. The project and resulting experiments began as a consequence of a single-wire anode spark counter I built circa 1990.

Over the weekend, a huge array of sunspots rotated into view. Experts suggest that the sun may be starting to unleash more solar storms. At the same time, these sunspots offer an opportunity for amateur solar astronomers to observe these sunspots.
I have to wonder if this presages a sea change in the role of the amateur scientist, not merely as an experimenter or theorist, but as a reviewer of "established" scientists and their work? It certainly seems that way.
